Muon Physics-The Standard Model and Beyond
Muon Physics embraces a wide spectrum of science ranging from some of
the most important test of the Standard Model of particle physics, to the study
of high-temperature super-conductors and fullerenes. Experimental facilities
and techniques are of common interest across this spectrum. This institute is
intended to introduce the young scientist to the high adventure of this field.
It will not only cover the central ideas through classroom lectures but beam
time will be available for hands on experimental training. This should not
discourage theorists from attending.
To apply to attend the Institute send a letter to TRIUMF Summer
Institute (or electronic mail to SNIT@TRIUMF.CA) by May 30, 1997. The letter
should contain the following: name, title(Dr./Mr./Ms.), university, supervisor
(for graduate students), full postal address, and electronic mail address. You
should include a brief academic history and a summary of your current
interests. Graduate students should also have their supervisor send a letter of
recommendation.
There is no registration fee but participants are responsible for the cost of
travel to TRIUMF and for room and board. The estimated cost of room and board
for the two weeks is about $400.00 CDN. We welcome applications from
non-Canadian as well as Canadian students.
