Range Shifter:
This wedge shaped piece is adjusted to match the depth of the tumour within the eye.

Range Modulator:
Used in conjunction with the Range Shifter to target the tumour.
This extends the Bragg peak to match the overall depth of the tumour.

X-Ray Tube:
Used to take the initial X-rays for the clip imaging.
It is not used during the actual proton therapy.

|
Ion Chamber:
Measures very accurately the number of protons in the beam.
If it determines that the count is not correct, the beam is shut off.
|
|
TV Camera:
Used to examine the movement of the eye being treated. The image is
watched on a closed circuit monitor in the control room. If the
eye moves during treatment, a hand-held button is released
and the beam is shut off instantaneously.

|
Motorized Chair:
Accurately positions the patient's eye in line with the beam.
It's position can be adjusted in six ways.
