Treatment Chair
Range Shifter Range Shifter: This wedge shaped piece is adjusted to match the depth of the tumour within the eye.
Range Modulator Range Modulator: Used in conjunction with the Range Shifter to target the tumour. This extends the Bragg peak to match the overall depth of the tumour.
X-Ray Tube X-Ray Tube: Used to take the initial X-rays for the clip imaging. It is not used during the actual proton therapy.
Ion Chamber Ion Chamber: Measures very accurately the number of protons in the beam. If it determines that the count is not correct, the beam is shut off.
Button TV Camera: Used to examine the movement of the eye being treated. The image is watched on a closed circuit monitor in the control room. If the eye moves during treatment, a hand-held button is released and the beam is shut off instantaneously.
Chair Motorized Chair: Accurately positions the patient's eye in line with the beam. It's position can be adjusted in six ways.
